It all started with this one social media post:
I would always look at the music of Paganini #5 and think to myself. "Yeah, right..."
Those dizzying arpeggios and super fast scales! 🤯
And that '3+1' ricochet bowing! 😳
(How the heck do you even do that anyway??)
Does this sound like you too?
This definitely was me for many... many years!
However, little by little, I decided to tackle my fear.
I started incorporating the ricochet bowing into my scales (at the beginning of the pandemic.)
Then, for a lark, I decided to sight-read the ricochet passage in the 5th Caprice.
And I kept chipping away it!
You can check out my progress over the course of the pandemic in the video below:
And here's the thing. Before, I never thought I could play this Caprice.
You know why?
Because I’ve never been a violin prodigy.
My beloved teacher in university, Mr. Lorand Fenyves, even told me that I was not a "natural” violinist.
I've had to work for everything...
And I have to admit: I don't even practice every day anymore. (I skip days all the time... or three sometimes!)
And when I actually do practice, I don’t practice more than 1 or 2 hours a day! (It’s about being efficient, right?)
If I can learn this Paganini Caprice, I think anybody can!
And that's why I decided to create the #Paganini5Challenge!
No matter if you are a novice violinist or if you are a professional with several Paganini caprices under your belt, I want this challenge to be a fun, inspiring, and motivating experience that will take you a through a 5-day journey. In five days, you will be 5% better than you when you started!
And yes, this challenge is for violinists of multiple levels. Everyone will come away learning something and improving their skills!
Choose as your goal just 5 notes... 5 measures... or 5 lines... It's your choice!
No matter your level, I hope you will join!
Sign up for the #Paganini5Challenge and you'll get my practice tips, fingerings, and my own personal markings in the score!
Oh, and I'm throwing in a free Paganini #5 Practice Guide that I wrote especially for the occasion!
Click here to join the Challenge and see you on June 2-6, 2021 live every day!
